Diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) should first and foremost be addressed as a human rights issue that cannot be compromised in situations where rights are not protected due to being in the minority or any other reason. Furthermore, we believe that it is the source of corporate competitiveness. In the current business environment, where change is constantly required, it is difficult to survive as a company without diverse ideas. In order to become a company that innovates and continues to be resilient to change, the ability to recover from difficulties and adapt flexibly, we position DEI as one of the pillars of our management strategy and aim for a highly flexible culture that can make the most of each individual with diverse perspectives, experiences, and values.

Gone are the days when we have to force ourselves to conform to the way of thinking and living of the majority. Paying attention to, understanding, and respecting the existence of people who have been called minorities is truly a matter of human rights. We want to be a company that respects diverse values. From the standpoint of the majority, it is natural that a homogeneous environment is absolutely easier and more comfortable. However, innovation does not occur there. It will be on the path of decline. We dare to choose the direction that needs power and choose to evolve while practicing diversity, equity and inclusion. We believe that this will lead to each and every one of us working with enthusiasm and demonstrating maximum performance, and to making the company more flexible and strong.

Panasonic Connect’s fundamental thinking is that sound management is premised on a healthy culture. We believe that this healthy culture can only be nurtured by an environment in which all employees can play an equal role and demonstrate their abilities. It can be said that the activities of diversity, equity and inclusion are the activities that create this environment, and the management activities themselves.

We aim to be a company where all employees feel joy working at the company, demonstrate their abilities to the fullest, and thereby contribute to all stakeholders, including customers, partners, and society.

DEI (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion) is an important activity related to respect for basic human rights, especially the guarantee of freedom and equality. This point has been discussed for a long time in the Constitution and legal systems since the modern era. I think it is all about how to ensure the dignity of the individual (Article 13 of the Constitution of Japan). Historically, there have been many cases where the opinions of minorities have been ignored, resulting in stagnation in decision-making and hindering innovation in society as a whole, and such historical facts can be important lessons for modern societies and organizations.

In this sense, the promotion of DEI is not just idealism, and corporations as a component of society also have a responsibility to create an environment that protects the dignity of individuals and basic human rights.

Recognizing the importance of these DEI activities, we will not only enhance our competitiveness as a company but also contribute to the realization of freedom and equality in Japan and the world by protecting the dignity of each and every employee and striving to build an appropriate balance between freedom and fairness.
